District 13 (5A)
Will be a Train Wreck

Alisha Williams and the rest of the Bryan squad had to feel confident after rolling through district with a 14-0 record.

But then the whole thing twisted apart leaving them shaken by a 92-85 heart breaker of a loss to Pflugerville (in Area).

Rebounding from having the season cut far shorter than the Lady Vikings had hoped will be difficult. Yet nothing compared to the hurdle of figuring out how to replace two of the teams leaders. Adonna Weaver and Tamila Martin will both be playing at a Kilgore JC having graduated this May.

Coperras Cove and Temple are both very exciting teams and will give Bryan everything they can handle. These three teams might just beat themselves up so much that a 4th team could sneak in and steal a playoff spot.

Coach John Shelton came to Bryan High School from Buffalo high school where he and his team won the 2002 State AA Championship.

He had previously been the head girls basketball coach at Princeton and Grapeland high schools.

Coach Shelton said "Alisha plays with a tremendous amount of energy. She can score both inside and out and is our best rebounder."

Coach Shelton loves Alisha's work ethic and leadership and feels it will be a crucial element of trying to create a championship team for the upcoming campaign. She is an outstanding mentor for the younger kids and her habits rub off on her team mates. If practice is going bad she motivates everybody with her actions and words.

We asked Alisha how she can best help her team reach its goals. She answered saying "By being a team leader and helping my team win district for the forth time in a row."

Ms. Williams wants to study Kinesiology and English, and then become a teacher and a basketball coach.

Coach Shelton points out that Alisha is a old school "gym rat".

He says "she would rather play basketball than eat. I have driven by the local park at 10 pm and seen her still playing basketball against the boys. You can tell how much she loves the game by the way she plays."

We at TexasGirlsBasketball.com wish Coach Shelton, Alisha and the rest of the lady Vikings the best of luck in their attempt to hold off the competition.

The Lady Vikings are counting on Ms. Willaims to provide even more offense as a senior.

The key to her taking it to another level will be how much she improves on her ability to shoot the jumper off the dribble.
